1884 – US recognizes King Leopold II’s Congo Free State

2014 – A 21 wagon freight train derails in the area of Katongala, Katanga, up-north Kamina. Although the authorities try to minimize the event, NGOs on site evaluate the casualties to over 250 deaths many more hurt.
